newy.com.au – A 39-year-old man has been charged after an alleged high-speed pursuit in the Hunter Valley ended with another vehicle rolling at a Minmi Road roundabout on Wednesday morning.

Traffic and Highway Patrol officers were conducting speed enforcement on the Hunter Expressway at Branxton about 5.30am when they detected a vehicle allegedly travelling at 178km/h in a signposted 110km/h zone.

Police said the driver failed to stop as directed, prompting a pursuit that continued to the Minmi Road roundabout, where the vehicle collided with another vehicle and caused it to roll. No injuries were reported.

The driver allegedly fled into nearby bushland before officers, assisted by the Dog Unit, arrested a man a short time later. He was taken to Toronto Police Station.

The man was charged with five offences, including exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h, failing to stop during a police pursuit and driving at speed, driving with a licence that had expired within the past two years, failing to provide particulars to another driver, and driving a vehicle taken without the owner’s consent.

He was refused bail and was due to appear before Bail Division Court 2 on Wednesday. Police will allege the vehicle was stolen from Tamworth overnight.
