newy.com.au – Five Maitland locals have been inducted into the City of Maitland Hall of Fame at a 2025 ceremony at the Maitland Park Rotunda recognising their impact on sport, business and community life.

Maitland City Council said the latest Hall of Fame intake honours people whose dedication and leadership have left a lasting mark on the city, with paver nameplates at the site providing a permanent public tribute to their achievements.

Basketball stalwart Tom Danilidis was recognised as a lifelong driving force behind the sport in Maitland. Council said he had inspired generations of athletes and volunteers through his commitment to building and sustaining the local basketball community.

Rugby league coach Matt Lantry was acknowledged as a highly respected and transformative figure in the code. Known for developing pathways and strengthening rugby league locally, Lantry was praised for his work in supporting players and lifting standards across the sport in Maitland.

Internationally recognised martial artist, coach and mentor Lindsay Guy was also inducted. Council said his leadership in martial arts had shaped generations in the community, reflecting both his sporting achievements and his influence as a teacher and role model.

Two community figures were honoured posthumously. Irene Hemsworth OAM was recognised as a devoted volunteer whose lifelong service supported numerous community groups, organisations and young people. Council credited her with uplifting “countless” local initiatives through sustained, behind the scenes work.

Long-serving retailer and civic contributor John Partridge was also inducted after his death. Described as a much loved retailer and community supporter, Partridge spent nearly 80 years contributing to Maitland’s business, education and civic life, with Council acknowledging his role in the city’s commercial and community development.

Families, friends, dignitaries and community members joined councillors at the Maitland Park Rotunda to witness the new pavers unveiled and celebrate the achievements of the inductees.

Maitland Mayor Philip Penfold said the ceremony was an opportunity to formally recognise the scale of each person’s contribution. “Their passions, commitment, and generosity have contributed to the vibrancy of our city in unique ways, shaping our community,” Cr Penfold said.

“Their stories are an inspiration to us all, and generations will remember their legacy,” he said.

The City of Maitland Hall of Fame accepts nominations throughout the year and recognises residents who have made a significant and enduring contribution to the social, cultural, sporting or economic life of the city.
