newy.com.au – Emergency crews responded to two separate incidents at Redhead Beach just after 7am, including a watchtower rescue and a suspected cardiac event involving a swimmer.

NSW Ambulance detailed the back to back callouts, outlining how paramedics were first called to a man found unresponsive on top of the beach watchtower before being diverted to help a man who collapsed after leaving the water and was rushed to John Hunter Hospital.

NSW Ambulance said “paramedics were called to the watchtower at Redhead Beach just after 7am today after a man in his 20s was found unresponsive on top of the tower”. Special Operations Team paramedics were sent in to reach the man safely at height.

Ambulance specialist team accessed the watchtower and found the man “had been sleeping and was in a stable condition”. With support from Fire and Rescue NSW and NSW Police Force, the man was brought down from the tower and did not need to be taken to hospital.

As paramedics finished their assessment of the first patient, a second emergency unfolded nearby when a man in his 40s collapsed after coming out of the water. NSW Ambulance said he was suffering a suspected cardiac event, and Intensive Care Paramedics who had just assisted with the watchtower operation helped provide urgent treatment before he was transported to John Hunter Hospital.

Other agencies including NSW Police and Fire & Rescue were amongst the agencies involved.

In an online post, NSW Ambulance thanked everone for their assistance “A huge shout-out to all crews involved for their teamwork and professionalism.” The organisation said the rapid, coordinated response from paramedics and other emergency services ensured both men received timely care.

Redhead surf life saving posted “Thank you to all the Emergency Services workers, the Redhead SLSC morning patrol, Lake Macquarie lifeguards and the Redhead SLSC nippers parent members who assisted in these two incidents this morning.”
