newy.com.au – A 23-year-old woman has been charged after allegedly driving her car at a 14-year-old boy riding an e-bike in Redhead, in the Lake Macquarie region, on Wednesday 12 November 2025.

NSW Police said the incident, which allegedly resulted in the e-bike being dragged along the road and the boy receiving minor injuries, has led to multiple serious traffic charges including predatory driving.

Emergency services were called to Elsdon Street, Redhead, about 5pm after reports of a crash involving a car and an e-bike. Police were told a woman had allegedly driven her vehicle at a boy riding the bike.

According to police, the boy jumped from the e-bike to avoid being hit by the car. The e-bike was then allegedly dragged for about 30 metres and was extensively damaged.

The 14-year-old boy sustained minor lacerations and bruising as a result of the incident. Police said no other injuries were reported at the scene.

Officers from Lake Macquarie Police District were notified after the woman allegedly drove from the crash location without stopping.

Following inquiries, police attended a home in Belmont North about 9.30pm the same night. There, officers arrested a 23-year-old woman in relation to the alleged incident.

She was taken to Belmont Police Station, where she was charged with predatory driving, cause bodily harm by misconduct while in charge of a motor vehicle, drive recklessly or at a speed or in a manner dangerous, fail to stop and assist after impact causing injury, and not give particulars to an injured person.

Police allege the woman left the scene without providing her details to the injured boy, an offence under road rules requiring drivers to stop and exchange information following a crash that results in injury.

The woman was refused bail and was scheduled to appear before Bail Division Court 2 on Thursday 13 November 2025.
