newy.com.au – Motorists travelling through Hexham are being advised of upcoming changes to traffic conditions on Maitland Road from Sunday, 13 July 2025, as part of the ongoing Hexham Straight Widening project.

Transport for NSW has confirmed that overnight work will be carried out between 7pm and 5am, with traffic operating under a contraflow arrangement on the southbound lanes between Old Maitland Road and Sparke Street. During these hours, speed limits will be temporarily reduced to 40km/h to ensure the safety of workers and road users.

Operators of oversize and overmass (OSOM) vehicles with ground contact wider than 3.4 metres or an overall width exceeding 4.5 metres are required to contact the project team at least one day in advance by calling 1800 515 141. These operators should expect potential delays of up to 30 minutes if prior notice is not given. The site operates on UHF channel 45 for communication.

Outside of night work hours, a temporary speed limit of 60km/h will remain in effect through the work zone. Permit vehicles must remain on approved routes unless an updated permit is secured from the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator.

Major construction activity will continue during standard hours from 7am to 6pm on weekdays, with additional work occurring overnight from Sunday to Thursday, and on Saturdays between 8am and 1pm.

Motorists are encouraged to follow signs and the directions of traffic controllers, consider alternative routes, or allow up to 15 extra minutes for travel through the area. Further details and real-time updates are available at Live Traffic NSW or via the Live Traffic NSW app.
