newy.com.au – A high-speed police pursuit in the Hunter region ended in a serious crash early this morning, with six teenagers hospitalised after the stolen car they were in veered off the road and slammed into a barrier near Woodberry.
Police from the Port Stephens-Hunter command were patrolling Woodberry Road at Millers Forest around 4.15am on Wednesday, 25 June, when they spotted a vehicle linked to an aggravated break-in at East Maitland the night before. When the driver allegedly refused to pull over, officers initiated a chase that lasted less than a minute before the car left the road and crashed roughly five kilometres north of Hexham.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, with officers providing immediate assistance to all six occupants of the vehicle, who are believed to be teenagers. NSW Ambulance paramedics transported the group to John Hunter Hospital, where they are being assessed. According to police, none of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening.
Police say initial inquiries suggest a 15-year-old boy was behind the wheel at the time of the crash. The vehicle had reportedly been stolen during an aggravated break-and-enter incident at a home in East Maitland overnight.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the crash and the events leading up to it. Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via the website at https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. All information is handled confidentially.
