newy.com.au – A man has been charged after a violent altercation that followed an early morning crash on Cessnock Road near Neath, just west of Newcastle, left another man with multiple stab wounds. Emergency services were alerted after a 40-year-old man, bleeding from several injuries, walked into Cessnock Police Station shortly after 4.40am on Thursday, 19 June.

According to police, the man had been driving a Holden sedan when it collided with a Subaru on Cessnock Road between Neath Road and Fisher Street. Following the crash, a passenger from the Subaru allegedly approached and stabbed the Holden driver multiple times before fleeing. The injured driver, rather than waiting for help, managed to flee the scene on foot to seek aid from police.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the man before transporting him to hospital for further medical care. A short time later, the Subaru involved in the initial incident was reportedly in a second crash along the same road. Officers from Hunter Valley Police District responded and arrested a 34-year-old man at the scene. He was taken to John Hunter Hospital under police guard.

Following medical clearance, the man was transferred to Cessnock Police Station where he was charged with reckless wounding. He has been refused bail and is expected to face Cessnock Local Court on Friday, 20 June 2025. Police have urged anyone with dashcam footage or information about the incident to come forward as investigations continue.
