Man arrested in Cardiff over string of alleged domestic violence offences

newy.com.au – A 40-year-old man has been arrested in Cardiff and charged with a range of alleged domestic violence offences, following a police investigation into incidents across the Lake Macquarie and Newcastle areas.

Officers from the Port Stephens-Hunter Police District launched inquiries on Wednesday, 2 April 2025, after receiving reports that a 26-year-old woman had been subjected to repeated physical and verbal abuse by someone known to her. The alleged assaults are said to have occurred over several weeks, from Monday, 10 March 2025, to Wednesday, 2 April 2025, at various locations including Gateshead, Windale, Jesmond and Newcastle.

With support from the Dog Unit, Lake Macquarie Police arrested the man on Kelton Street, Cardiff, around 2.30pm on Friday, 4 April 2025. He was taken to Waratah Police Station and charged with multiple offences, including five counts of stalking or intimidation with intent to cause fear of physical harm (domestic), three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm (domestic), and two counts of common assault (domestic).

Additional charges include two counts of being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, threatening to distribute an intimate image without consent, and two counts of hindering or resisting police.

The man was refused bail and was due to appear at Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday, 5 April 2025.
