newy.com.au – Young people across Lake Macquarie are set to dive into a jam-packed program of fun and vibrant activities as Youth Week kicks off from Wednesday, 9 April through to Thursday, 17 April, 2025.

This year’s theme focuses on celebrating the individuality and influence of young people, highlighting their potential as future leaders and changemakers. Lake Macquarie Mayor Adam Shultz said the program was about recognising the value young people bring to the community and giving them space to shine.

“They’re the heart of our future – it’s important we champion their voices and provide opportunities like this to build their confidence and community connection,” he said.

Lake Macquarie City Council has lined up seven different events across the region. Kicking off the celebrations will be the Giant Games on the Grass event at Toronto High School from 12:30pm on Wednesday, 9 April.

The excitement continues on Friday, 11 April, with creative art workshops at the Museum of Art and Culture, yapang, from 10am, followed by a colourful afternoon at PCYC Lake Macquarie in Windale with a high-energy Colour Run starting from 4pm.

Saturday, 12 April will bring coastal vibes to Caves Beach where surf lessons will be on offer from 10am. Attendees can stick around for a barbecue and friendly games of beach cricket and volleyball. Seventeen-year-old Indiana Richardson said events like these offer more than just fun – they’re a way to break down barriers.

“Water safety is so important, and learning it in a way that’s fun makes it feel cool. Plus, it’s a great way for young people to meet others from outside their usual school groups,” she said.

On Monday, 14 April, Baxter Field in Marks Point will host another Colour Run paired with a Water Fun Day. Then on Wednesday, 16 April, Bonnells Bay will transform into a battle zone for the Ultimate Nerf War, firing up from 10am.

Wrapping things up in style, PCYC Morisset will host a Barbecue and Beats event from 5pm on Friday, 18 April.
