Motorists are advised of changed traffic conditions from Monday 7 April until Friday 11 April while we continue construction work for the M1 Pacific Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace.
To minimise impacts to motorists, work will be carried out at night at the following locations:
Heatherbrae Bypass
From 7pm to 5am and 7am to 5pm on Thursday 10 April to Friday 11 April, northbound lanes on the Pacific Highway between Masonite Road and Richardson Road will have a single lane closure and oversize/over mass (OSOM) restrictions will be in place in the remaining lane. A holding area will be provided immediately north of Kingston Parade, Heatherbrae for OSOM vehicles with ground contact width greater than 3.2 metres and/or width greater than 4.5 metres. Black Hill to Tomago
From 7pm to 5am on Monday 7 April, Tuesday 8 April and Friday 11 April the eastbound off ramp from the New England Highway to Anderson Drive will be closed with a detour in place via New England Highway/Maitland Road, weather permitting. (Refer map two)
From 7pm to 5am from Monday 7 April to Thursday 10 April traffic will be stopped for 10-minute intervals on the Pacific Highway between Hunter Region Botanic Gardens and Old Punt Rd to complete works on overhead powerlines.
From 7pm to 5am on Monday 7 April, Tuesday 8 April and Friday 11 April the eastbound and westbound lanes of the New England Highway will be under a contraflow arrangement from Tarro Rail Bridge to John Renshaw Drive, weather permitting.
From 7pm to 5am on Monday 7 April, Tuesday 8 April and Friday 11 April the northbound and southbound lanes of the M1 Pacific Motorway will be under a contraflow arrangement from Weakleys Drive to Black Hill Road, weather permitting.
Heatherbrae Bypass section
A holding area will be provided immediately north of Kingston Parade, Heatherbrae for OSOM vehicles intending to travel northbound on the Pacific Highway between Masonite Road and Richardson Road.
All OSOM vehicles intending to travel through this area on 7pm to 5am and 7am to 5pm on Thursday 10 April to Friday 11 April are requested to stop in the designated holding bay. Once stopped, call the site on UHF Channel 24 or call 0428 066 844 (or at night call 0428 066 844), as shown on signage provided, to confirm arrangements for travelling through the work area.
Operators of oversize and/or over mass vehicles with ground contact width greater than 3.2 metres and/or width greater than 4.5 metres are advised to contact the project team on 1800 094 895 (Option 2) at least one day ahead of proposed movement to avoid significant delays.
OSOM vehicles greater than the restricted width should expect short delays during this work.
Black Hill to Tomago section
Operators of oversize and/or over mass vehicles with a ground contact wider than 3.2 metres or with overall width greater than 4.5 metres are advised to contact the project team on 0423 323 946 at least one day ahead of proposed movement. Significant delays can occur through failure to make contact prior to travel.
Please note vehicles travelling under a permit must not travel off the approved route listed in the permit unless an updated permit is obtained from the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator.
Major construction work will continue across the remainder of the project from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and Saturday from 8am to 5pm, as well as out of hours from 7pm to 5am Monday to Friday nights.
The work will also require lane closures with intermittent stoppages and temporary speed reductions to 40km/h at the following locations and times:

OSOM holding bay located immediately north of Kingston Parade, Heatherbrae for northbound OSOM vehicles intending to travel through Pacific Highway between Masonite Road and Richardson Road (Thursday 10 April to Friday 11 April)
Traffic accessing Tarro New England Highway-Anderson Drive offramp exit eastbound detour via New England Highway/Maitland Road (Monday 7 April, Tuesday 8 April and Friday 11 April)
Motorists are advised of changed traffic conditions on Maitland Road from this Sunday, while work is carried out for the Hexham Straight Widening project.
To minimise impacts to motorists, work will be carried out overnight from 7pm to 5am.
From Sunday 6 April to Thursday 10 April, weather permitting, there will be preparation work for the road resurfacing of Shamrock Street, which includes milling and concrete slab replacements. Access for motorists, pedestrians and emergency services will be maintained during work.
On Sunday 13 April, weather permitting, road resurfacing work will take place on Shamrock Street, which will see the road closed for one night. Inbound traffic, including heavy vehicles, will continue to the Sparke Street U-turn facility. Outbound traffic will use the Old Maitland Road U-turn facility. Heavy vehicles will proceed to the U-turn facility under Hexham Bridge. Access for pedestrians and emergency services will be maintained on Shamrock Street during the work. Access to the McDonald’s and Shell truck stop via Shamrock Street will be closed during resurfacing work.
A temporary speed limit of 60km/h will remain in place through the project work zone during ongoing day work, with a reduction to 40km/h during night works.
Major work will continue from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday, out of hours from 7pm to 7am Sunday to Thursday, and Saturday between 8am and 1pm.
OSOM operators are advised the project operates on UHF channel 45.
Motorists are advised to follow the directions of signs and traffic controllers, use alternative routes where possible or allow up to 15 minutes extra travel time.
