The community is invited to get a first look at the newly expanded Hunter Sports Centre, kaiyu nungkiliko, with a free open day taking place this Saturday, 29 March.
Running from noon to 3pm, the event will include guided tours of the new facilities, fitness classes, displays, roving entertainment, a sausage sizzle, and free coffee and gelato.
The open day follows the official launch earlier this month of the $52 million upgrade, which includes the country’s first Trampoline Centre of Excellence, a modernised gymnastics hall, and a new three-level sport and community centre.
Lake Macquarie Mayor Adam Shultz said it would be the first time the public could explore the new site.
“All three levels of government have come together to fund this world-class expansion,” Cr Shultz said.
“It has created a facility capable of holding national and international events – one that will create pathways for our future athletes to thrive and succeed.”
Funding for the expansion came from Lake Macquarie City Council, the Australian Government via several programs including Building Better Regions, and the NSW Government through initiatives such as the Centre of Excellence Fund and the Regional Sport Facility Fund.
Further details about the open day are available on the event page.
