newy.com.au – Liberal candidate for the federal seat of Paterson, Laurence Antcliff, has pledged $800,000 for much-needed upgrades to the Salamander Sports Complex in Port Stephens, if elected.

Mr Antcliff said the complex is a key sporting hub for the community but requires significant improvements to meet the needs of local players and teams.

“Every week, hundreds of locals play hockey, rugby, and cricket at Salamander, and they deserve safe, high-quality facilities,” he said.

His election promise includes resurfacing the fields, upgrading lighting to extend playing hours, and installing new scoreboards to enhance the game-day experience for players and spectators.

“Sport is a huge part of life in this region, helping to improve physical and mental well-being while strengthening community ties. This investment will mean local teams no longer have to put up with outdated facilities,” Mr Antcliff said.

He tied the funding promise to the Liberal Party’s broader economic plan, claiming that only a Liberal Government could deliver such commitments due to its financial management approach.

“This is part of my plan to support local projects and ensure Paterson and Australia get back on track,” he said.

With the commitment hinging on a Liberal victory in the upcoming election, local voters will ultimately decide whether the funding becomes a reality.
