newy.com.au – A new ambulance station is on the way for Caves Beach, with a site identified at Kayuga Close to service Swansea, Caves Beach, and surrounding communities. This project is part of the NSW Government’s $615.5 million NSW Ambulance Infrastructure Program, which aims to strengthen emergency response capabilities across Lake Macquarie.
Alongside the Caves Beach station, new facilities are also planned for Gateshead and Edgeworth, ensuring better emergency medical care in these growing areas. The location was chosen following a thorough assessment by NSW Ambulance and Health Infrastructure, ensuring it best supports frontline paramedics and optimises response times for Triple Zero (000) calls.
With the site now confirmed, the next steps will include design development and planning approvals before construction gets underway. Timelines for completion and operation will be determined as the project progresses. Meanwhile, work is ongoing to secure locations for the new Gateshead and Edgeworth stations.
The NSW Ambulance Infrastructure Program is delivering 30 additional ambulance stations across key locations in Sydney, the Central Coast, Newcastle, the Hunter, and Wollongong. Among the sites already confirmed are North Sydney, South Windsor, Oran Park, Berowra, Prestons, Moss Vale, Bargo, Lisarow, and Glendenning. In the Hunter region, new stations are also planned for East Maitland and Branxton.
Minister for Regional Health, Ryan Park, highlighted the importance of the new stations, stating they will support paramedics in delivering high-quality emergency and mobile medical care well into the future. Minister for the Hunter, Yasmin Catley, welcomed the news, saying the Caves Beach station will provide faster emergency response times for local families as the region continues to grow.
The Minns Labor Government is also investing in workforce expansion, with 2,500 additional NSW Ambulance staff being recruited, including 500 paramedics dedicated to rural and regional areas. The Hunter region has already seen an increase of 50 paramedics under the Strategic Workforce Infrastructure Team program.
With the region’s population increasing, investments like the new ambulance stations and the $835 million redevelopment of John Hunter Hospital ensure that essential healthcare services are keeping pace with demand.
