newy.com.au – The sights, sounds, and steam of a bygone era will once again roll into Maitland as the Burton Automotive Hunter Valley Steamfest returns on 12 and 13 April 2025. The beloved festival is set to draw thousands of visitors and train enthusiasts, celebrating the rich railway heritage of the Hunter Valley.
Burton Automotive Group has reaffirmed its commitment as the naming rights sponsor, continuing its long-standing support of the event. Dealer Principal Norm Burton OAM expressed pride in the partnership, emphasising the festival’s significance in showcasing the region’s railway history.
“Beyond the incredible spectacle Steamfest provides, it’s an opportunity to reflect on how rail shaped Maitland and the Hunter Valley into the place we love today,” said Burton.
Train enthusiasts are in for a treat, with the Steamfest Rail Program, presented by Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC), featuring the iconic locomotives 3265 and 3526. These historic engines will take passengers on scenic journeys to Branxton, Paterson, and Port Waratah.
One of the standout events of the weekend will be the annual ARTC Great Train Race, where these powerful steam locomotives will go head-to-head against a Tiger Moth aeroplane in a thrilling battle of speed and steam.
Beyond the rail action, visitors can explore The Bloomfield Group Steam Rally, held at the newly named Garnham Grounds—a tribute to former long-serving Steamfest Chairman Peter Garnham and his wife Kelly for their dedication to Maitland. The rally will showcase vintage machinery, steam-powered engines, and more.
Car enthusiasts won’t want to miss the Altapac Show ‘n’ Shine on Sunday 13 April, where more than 500 classic cars will be on display alongside food stalls, live entertainment, and family-friendly attractions.
New Steamfest Chairman, Councillor Ken Jordan, who has taken over from Peter Garnham, highlighted the event’s importance to the community.
“Steamfest isn’t just about celebrating our steam heritage—it’s about bringing people together, supporting local businesses, and showcasing Maitland as a must-visit destination,” he said.
Tickets for the Burton Automotive Hunter Valley Steamfest Rail Program, presented by ARTC, will be available soon. To stay updated, sign up for the newsletter at mait.city/SteamfestNewsletter or visit www.steamfest.com.au for the latest announcements.
