newy.com.au – Eleven new studios will join Lake Mac Open Studios this weekend, as the free art trail features more than 80 artists at 35 studios across Lake Macquarie.
The self-guided event will run from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November. Returning for its seventh year, it gives visitors the chance to meet local artists, watch demonstrations and buy original artworks directly from their makers.
The program includes painting, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, jewellery and photography. Lake Macquarie City Council Cultural Projects Curator Charlotte Hilder said the event offered a way to support local artists and small creative businesses.
Among the new participants is Aboriginal artist Saretta Fielding, who will exhibit as part of the Malang Artists Together group exhibition at Miromaa Aboriginal Language and Technology Centre in Boolaroo.
“I wanted to get involved this time around to create an opportunity for the Aboriginal artists supported by Malang Indigenous Corporation to connect with the local arts community and have a platform to showcase their artwork, creativity and individual practices,” she said.
Visitors to the Miromaa centre will be able to view and purchase original works by Aboriginal artists from across the Hunter.
The Nikinpa Women’s Art Group will also return to Open Studios, showcasing handmade leaves and wreaths.
A full list of participating studios and artists, along with trail maps to help visitors plan their weekend, is available on the Lake Mac Open Studios event page.
