newy.com.au – A 27-year-old man has been charged with murder following the fatal stabbing of a man at Hamilton South last month.
Emergency services were called to Hassall Street about 3.30pm on Saturday, 11 July, following reports of a stabbing.
Newcastle City Police District officers found a 42-year-old man suffering from a stab wound. NSW Ambulance paramedics treated him at the scene before taking him to John Hunter Hospital, where he died a short time later.
Police established a crime scene in Hassall Street for specialist forensic examination, while Newcastle detectives launched Strike Force Favalo with assistance from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.
Strike force detectives, supported by Northern Region Operational Support Group officers, the Dog Unit and Police Rescue, attended a Hamilton South address about 7.15am on Tuesday, 4 August.
A 27-year-old man was arrested and taken to Newcastle Police Station, where he was charged with murder. He was refused bail and is due to appear before Bail Division Court 2 on Wednesday, 5 August.
