Fourth man charged over alleged Newcastle West stabbing

newy.com.au – A 19-year-old man has become the fourth person charged after an 18-year-old was allegedly stabbed in a Newcastle West carpark on Sunday 11 January 2026, NSW Police say.

Police said the latest arrest was made at Maitland Police Station on Wednesday 28 January, bringing the number of men charged over the incident to four, with the earlier three still before the courts.

Emergency services were called to a carpark on Parry Street about 3.20am, where officers found the 18-year-old man with a stab wound to his neck and head. He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Officers from Newcastle City Police District established a crime scene and began inquiries.

In an earlier update, NSW Police said Newcastle detectives and the Northern Operations Support Group attended a home in Rutherford about 11.25am on Tuesday 13 January and arrested two men, both aged 18. One was charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company of other(s), and affray, while the other was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company of other(s) and affray.

Police said a third man, 19, was arrested at Newcastle Police Station about 2pm on Wednesday 14 January and charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company of other(s) and affray. He was granted strict conditional bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 29 January, police said.

The latest 19-year-old was arrested at Maitland Police Station about 8.35am on Wednesday 28 January and charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and affray. He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 2 the same day, where bail was formally refused for an appearance in Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday 25 March.

Inquiries into the alleged stabbing are continuing.
