Cyclist critical after Nords Wharf hit-and-run crash, police search for black SUV

newy.com.au – A man in his 40s is in a critical condition after a cyclist and a vehicle collided at Nords Wharf, Lake Macquarie on Sunday 14 December 2025, the driver failed to stop.

Emergency services were called just after 11am to the intersection of the Pacific Highway and Awabakal Drive after reports of a crash, Police are searching for a black Toyota SUV believed to have been involved in the crash and have appealed for witnesses and dashcam footage, as traffic delays continued on the Pacific Highway.

Officers from Lake Macquarie Police District arrived and determined a cyclist and SUV had collided. The cyclist was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition.

A crime scene was declared and inquiries were continuing on Sunday afternoon.

Traffic conditions were affected along the Pacific Highway in both directions, with only one northbound lane open. Southbound lanes had reopened but remained subject to heavy traffic.

Motorists were urged to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have asked the driver of the Toyota, or anyone with information or dashcam footage, to contact Belmont Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
