newy.com.au – Six powerboat races and aerial displays by Matt Hall will feature at Lake Mac Action Fest on 17 and 18 October, with a Warners Bay spectator hub showing live coverage of the racing.
The races will take place around the northern end of Lake Macquarie across three boat categories. Each will run for 30 minutes, and Lake Macquarie City Council says some of the boats are capable of speeds above 200km/h.
The Warners Bay site will operate from 10am to 3pm on Saturday and Sunday, offering a big screen and live commentary alongside food stalls, markets and children’s activities. A licensed bar will run from 11am to 2.30pm each day.
Council’s arts, culture and tourism manager Jacqui Hemsley said spectators also had options beyond the Warners Bay hub.
“Hardcore powerboat fans can also get up close to the machines at the Empire Marina pit area, or set up at Marmong Point where the boats travel close to shore.”
Hall’s aerial displays are scheduled for 11.40am on both days, with an additional Saturday display at 1.40pm. Roving characters including Batman and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will also meet families at the Warners Bay site.
The festival program extends beyond the waterfront racing to include the Fernleigh 15, the Morisset Lake Macquarie Agricultural Show and the Lake Macquarie Show ‘n Shine car display at Speers Point Park.
More information and the full program are available on council’s Lake Mac Action Fest page.
