newy.com.au – Night work at Hexham’s Maitland Road and New England Highway intersection is expected to delay traffic and affect oversize loads during the week beginning Sunday 18 October 2026, Transport for NSW has warned.

The disruption comes as oversize and overmass deliveries from the Port of Newcastle to Uungula Wind Farm continue six days a week. The agency has directed motorists to Squadron Energy’s delivery schedule for those movements, warning that roadworks and freight deliveries could cause delays to accumulate along the route to the Central West.

A separate transformer movement from Queensland is scheduled to travel between Dubbo and Merriwa on Sunday 18 October. Transport for NSW described the movement as about 6.5 metres wide, 140 metres long and 590 tonnes. Delays are expected on the Golden Highway as it reaches Dunedoo and Merriwa, with updates available through the Live Traffic NSW transformer movement alert.

Other work along the Hunter section of the route includes maintenance on Mitchell Line of Road and on the Golden Highway at Mount Thorley and Warkworth.

On the Golden Highway, construction of a pull over bay near Cowan’s Bus Service at Sandy Hollow and lane widening near Barnett Street at Merriwa could each cause delays of up to 10 minutes. Both sites are also expected to affect oversize and overmass vehicles.

The Five Mile Rest Area, on the Merriwa to Dunedoo section, will remain accessible to other vehicles but have reduced capacity while a large oversize and overmass vehicle is parked there.

Further west, delays of up to 10 minutes are expected at each of two Golden Highway pull over bay projects: near Tongy Lane at Uarbry and east of Back Creek at Leadville.

The alert also lists intersection work at the Castlereagh and Golden highways at Dunedoo. No roadwork impacts were listed for the final section between Dunedoo and Uungula Wind Farm.

Transport for NSW urged motorists to slow down and take care when approaching or passing oversize loads. It said traffic changes needed to carry out construction and maintenance safely could cause unavoidable delays, and roadwork could be affected by weather or other conditions.
