newy.com.au – Catherine Hill Bay is set to gain Sunday buses for the first time under a NSW Government expansion of Route 99 that will add 148 services a week across northern Central Coast and Lake Macquarie.
The changes are expected to begin in November, although the new timetable is still being finalised with the bus operator.
Buses are planned to run hourly, seven days a week, finishing at about 10pm each night. Services would start at 5am on weekdays, 6am on Saturdays and 7am on Sundays, giving residents more options for evening and weekend travel without relying on a car.
The expansion includes additional direct services between Lake Haven, Lake Munmorah, Murrays Beach, Catherine Hill Bay and Swansea. The government says the changes will also improve connections to Newcastle’s bus network at Swansea.
The longer operating hours are intended to support workers travelling later in the evening. The government says the extra services will also make travel easier for students attending Lake Munmorah High School, St Brigid’s Catholic College, St Brendan’s Primary School and Swansea High School.
Minister for the Hunter and Swansea MP Yasmin Catley said residents had long requested additional services.
“Whether you’re heading to work, getting the kids to school or visiting family on a Sunday, you should be able to rely on public transport to get you there.”
The Route 99 expansion is being delivered through the NSW Government’s $150 million Bus Service Uplift program, which funds service improvements in growing communities across the state.
