newy.com.au – Port Stephens residents are being invited to join the Garage Sale Trail across two November weekends in 2026, the final year the national event will be run by its current organiser.

The sales will take place on 7 and 8 November and 14 and 15 November. Port Stephens Council is encouraging residents to host a garage sale or visit local sales and markets.

After 16 years, the Garage Sale Trail Foundation is ending its role delivering the event. However, it is seeking a replacement organisation, leaving open the possibility the trail could continue beyond 2026.

Garage Sale Trail director Barbara Gill said: “We’re opening expressions of interest for a new custodian, brand or organisation to carry the Garage Sale Trail forward for years to come.”

Port Stephens Mayor Leah Anderson encouraged residents to take part, saying the event offered an opportunity to clear unwanted goods and make or save money.

“It’s just one more way Council is contributing to the circular economy in Port Stephens – keeping products in use for as long as possible and reducing landfill.

“This is the Garage Sale Trail’s final year, so it’s the perfect opportunity for our community to lead by example. We’d love for you to get involved by hosting your own garage sale,” Mayor Anderson added.

Registration is free and includes downloadable signs, guides and promotional tools. Residents can register through the Garage Sale Trail’s Port Stephens page.
