newy.com.au – A double garage has been gutted by fire on Warrah Street at Hamilton East, and a witness has reported damage to the house.
Fire and Rescue NSW deployed several appliances, including an aerial appliance, to fight the blaze. Witnesses reported hearing a smoke alarm and several explosions.
A witness returning home from the movies told newy.com.au: “We stopped when we saw it around 11-11:15pm and it was well alight and emergency services were on scene with more arriving.”
The witness said the couple living at the property were alerted by their car alarm and “they were able to quickly get 000 on the phone and exit the home”.
NSW Police are at the scene and have begun investigating. The cause of the fire has not been confirmed.
One of the two southbound lanes on Stewart Avenue, part of the Pacific Highway, is closed.
