newy.com.au – Motorists travelling between Newcastle and the Central West could face delays of up to 10 minutes at several Golden Highway work sites during the week beginning Monday 5 October, Transport for NSW has warned.

The agency said delays could add up along the route as roadworks coincide with school holiday and October long weekend traffic. The Koori Knockout at Raymond Terrace and events around Newcastle associated with the NRL grand final are also expected to bring extra traffic.

Oversize and overmass deliveries from the Port of Newcastle to Uungula Wind Farm will not operate over the long weekend. They will resume on Tuesday 6 October. The deliveries normally run six days a week, and motorists can consult Squadron Energy’s delivery schedule when planning their trip.

Closer to Newcastle, delays are expected at intersection works at Maitland Road and the New England Highway at Hexham, where night work will affect oversize loads. Slope stabilisation on the Golden Highway near Putty Road is also under way.

At Sandy Hollow, construction of a pull over bay near Cowan’s Bus Service on the Golden Highway could delay traffic by up to 10 minutes. Separate roadworks near Peberdy’s Road will operate under stop/slow traffic control.

Further west, delays of up to 10 minutes are expected at both lane widening works near Barnett Street at Merriwa and pull over bay construction east of Back Creek at Leadville.

There will be no long weekend traffic impact from pull over bay construction near Tongy Lane at Uarbry. That work resumes on Wednesday 7 October, when delays of up to 10 minutes are expected.

The route also includes intersection works at the Castlereagh and Golden highways at Dunedoo. Transport for NSW did not specify an expected delay time for that site.

The agency urged drivers to follow directions around work sites and large loads.

“Motorists are advised to plan their journey, allow extra travel time and to adhere to any direction given by traffic controllers and/or pilot vehicles.”

Transport for NSW also provides advice on safely sharing the road with oversize and overmass vehicles.

Work schedules may change because of weather or other conditions. Motorists can check road impact information for the Port of Newcastle to Central West route and use the Live Traffic NSW app for the latest updates. App users can search for an incident, select it and choose “Follow” to receive updates on their phone.
