newy.com.au – Nominations have opened for the 2026 Port Stephens Annual Awards, with residents invited to put forward individuals and groups for contributions to community life, sport, culture and the environment.
The awards cover seven categories and will be presented as part of Port Stephens Council’s Australia Day program on Tuesday 26 January 2027.
Young people aged 25 or younger can be nominated for Young Citizen of the Year for outstanding leadership or contribution. Recognition also extends to organisations and groups through the Port Stephens Medal, which honours distinguished service by individuals or organisations.
“The nominations come from our community, which makes these awards particularly meaningful. I encourage everyone to nominate the people who make a difference in their lives or their community,” Mayor Leah Anderson said.
The Freeman of Port Stephens honour recognises exceptional service and a lifetime of outstanding contribution. Citizen of the Year recognises significant contributions to the community, with particular emphasis on the past 12 months.
Sportsperson of the Year is not limited to competitors, with excellence in coaching, officiating and administration also recognised. The Cultural Endeavour category covers contributions to arts, culture, heritage and creativity, while the Environmental Award recognises environmental leadership and sustainability initiatives.
