newy.com.au – Australia Post and StarTrack have opened applications for five seasonal jobs in Newcastle, with work starting from mid-October ahead of the Christmas parcel rush.
The local vacancies cover mail and parcel processing support and forklift driving. Australia Post says no previous experience is needed for parcel processing roles, while it is seeking forklift operators with a valid licence.
The Newcastle positions form part of a recruitment drive for more than 900 seasonal workers across NSW and more than 3,500 nationally. The extra staff will help handle increased parcel volumes as shoppers place orders around Black Friday and Christmas.
Australia Post executive general manager of people and culture Sue Davies said seasonal workers had helped the business manage record demand last year.
“Last year we delivered a record 111 million parcels in the lead up to Christmas and that wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible people working hard across our network.”
The national recruitment campaign also includes truck drivers, van drivers and freight handlers. Truck driving roles are due to begin in early September, while parcel processing, freight handling, van driving and forklift roles start from mid-October.
Davies said some employees who initially joined for the seasonal peak had gone on to longer-term careers with Australia Post.
