newy.com.au – Raymond Terrace is expected to welcome 10,000 visitors a day when the NSW Koori Knockout comes to King Park from 2 to 5 October 2026, according to Port Stephens Council.
New goal posts have been installed and drainage works completed ahead of the four-day indigenous sporting and cultural event. Further community updates on parking layouts, temporary road closures and traffic management will be released from next week.
The council has partnered with the Newcastle Yowies as a major event sponsor. Mayor Leah Anderson said preparations had involved months of planning, with site set-up to become increasingly visible at King Park in the coming weeks.
“We’ve been supporting the Newcastle Yowies and working alongside Transport for NSW, NSW Police and other key stakeholders to ensure the event is well planned, safe and ready to welcome thousands of competitors, families and visitors to Raymond Terrace,” Cr Anderson said.
Teams, families and supporters are expected to travel from across NSW for the October long weekend. Cr Anderson said the influx was expected to boost local businesses and accommodation providers, while giving local families an opportunity to attend a major cultural event close to home.
Newcastle Yowies president Warren Schillings said the organisation was proud to bring the competition to Worimi Country and looked forward to welcoming those taking part. He said the gathering brought communities together through sport and culture, helping inspire the next generation.
“It’s a chance for people to reconnect, celebrate culture and share stories and traditions with family and community,” Mr Schillings said.
Destination Port Stephens chief executive Jo Thomas said the event offered an opportunity for tourism operators beyond Raymond Terrace, with visitors encouraged to extend their stay and explore the wider region.
