newy.com.au – A 17.3-kilometre charity walk from Redhead to Nobbys Head is planned for 2027, aiming to raise money for local homelessness, domestic violence and animal welfare charities.

The Newy Coast Charity Walk is being promoted as a reboot of the Blacksmiths 2 Breakwall Coast Walk. The planned route will connect the Lake Macquarie and Newcastle coastlines, starting at Redhead Shark Tower and finishing at the lighthouse atop Nobbys Head.

Organisers say the course will take in beaches, bushland, promenades and pathways, with about 400 metres of climbing across the route. That makes the elevation, as well as the distance, part of the challenge for participants.

The event is held to support several local charities helping people at risk of homelessness and domestic violence, along with organisations finding new homes for dogs and cats.

The Newy Coast Charity Walk website is accepting mailing list signups ahead of registrations opening. Organisers have also established a Facebook event where prospective walkers can indicate their interest.

Sponsorships are open, organisers are seeking help from residents and businesses to spread the word. An online poster is available to share, and printed posters are planned around the opening of registrations.
