newy.com.au – Country music is heading back to Newcastle Foreshore, and this time Howlin’ is bringing a rodeo along for the ride.
Kasey Chambers and American singer-songwriter Max McNown will headline Howlin’ Rock N Rodeo on Saturday 13 February 2027, with separate day and night sessions giving fans a choice of when to join the fun.
Chambers is the daytime drawcard, bringing a career spanning more than 25 years, from The Captain and Not Pretty Enough through to her latest album, Backbone. There’s plenty in that catalogue for longtime fans to get excited about. Artist background.
McNown will headline the evening session. If his name is new to you, you might recognise A Lot More Free or Better Me For You (Brown Eyes). The Oregon-born singer has gone from busking in Southern California to touring internationally in just a few years, building a following for his mix of country, folk and personal storytelling. The Wet Whistles, Tori Darke and Cheap Whiskey DJs will appear across both sessions, with Ellis Undercover also joining the daytime line-up. More acts are still to come.
Over in the arena, there’ll be bull riding, bronc riding and barrel racing, with the bull riding final taking place under lights.
There’s plenty to do between sets, too. Organisers have announced free line dancing lessons, a mechanical bull and a Silent Saloon, where festivalgoers can put on headphones and choose from three music channels. The daytime session runs from 10am to 4pm, followed by the evening session from 4.30pm to 10.30pm. Both welcome all ages, with the daytime session especially geared towards families. Session information.
