newy.com.au – Overnight lane closures and a 40km/h speed limit will be introduced on Nelson Bay Road between Williamtown and Salt Ash from Monday, September 14, as crews investigate ground conditions for a future road upgrade.
Transport for NSW said the investigations would cover the stretch between Medowie Road at Williamtown and Richardson Road at Salt Ash. The work is expected to take three weeks, depending on weather and available resources.
One lane will be closed in one direction at a time, with stop/slow traffic control in place. Work will run from 7pm to 5am Sunday to Thursday nights, with no work scheduled for Friday or Saturday nights.
The investigations will help inform the future Nelson Bay Road upgrade. The overnight restrictions are for that preliminary work, rather than construction of the upgrade itself.
Oversize or overmass vehicles will be required to pull over on approach to the worksite before being escorted through. Operators have been advised to allow extra travel time. The project uses UHF channel 17.
Vehicles travelling under a permit must remain on their approved route unless an updated permit is obtained from the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator. Operators travelling under a Notice must check the relevant enforceable network map to confirm an approved alternative route.
Transport for NSW has urged motorists to drive to the conditions and follow signs and traffic controllers’ directions.
