A three car crash led to the southbound closure of the New England Highway just after 4pm on Friday.
One patient suffered facial injuries, another has an abdominal injury and a third is suffering leg pain. The conditions of the other two patients are not yet known.
Four ambulances conveyed multiple patients to the John Hunter Hospital for treatment.
The highway re-opened at 5:40pm
