newy.com.au – Motorists travelling between the Port of Newcastle and the Central West have been warned to expect cumulative delays as roadworks coincide with frequent oversized wind farm deliveries from Monday, August 31.
Several oversize and overmass loads are scheduled to leave the port for Squadron Energy’s Uungula Wind Farm six days a week, using corridors that include the Pacific, New England, Golden and Castlereagh highways.
Transport for NSW has not estimated the total delay across the route, but individual work sites could hold traffic for up to 10 minutes. Short road closures may also be required near Merriwa.
At the Newcastle end of the journey, work is under way at the Industrial Drive and Vine Street intersection in Mayfield and on the M1 Pacific Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace. Road upgrades at Mudies Creek, on the Golden Highway and Mitchell Line of Road, could also affect the large loads and cause short delays.
Portable traffic lights will operate on the Golden Highway west of Jerry Plains, while roadwork west of Denman Bridge is expected to add about five minutes to trips.
Further west, drivers could be delayed by up to 10 minutes near Cowan’s Bus Service at Sandy Hollow, where a pull-over bay is being built. Stop-slow traffic controls will operate near Peberdy’s Road, with more roadwork near Merriwa expected to cause five-minute delays.
Lane widening near Barnett Street at Merriwa may require intermittent short closures. Two more pull-over bays are being built near Tongy Lane at Uarbry and east of Back Creek at Leadville, with delays of up to 10 minutes possible at each site.
At Dunedoo, work at the Castlereagh and Golden highways intersection could hold traffic for up to 10 minutes. An upgrade is also under way at the Spring Ridge Road and Golden Highway intersection at Cobbora.
Motorists have been advised to allow additional travel time and follow instructions from traffic controllers and pilot vehicles accompanying the large loads. Work schedules may change because of weather or other conditions, with current information available through Live Traffic NSW.
