newy.com.au – Maitland men aged 16 and older can apply for one of four $1000 scholarships offered as part of the city’s International Men’s Day program.
Applications are open to residents of the Maitland local government area, with the money intended to help recipients develop skills, pursue creative interests, grow a business, improve their health and wellbeing or contribute to the community.
Maitland councillor Sally Halliday said the scholarships would provide practical support for local men seeking to turn their plans into action.
“If there’s something you’ve been wanting to pursue, I encourage you to apply,” Cr Halliday said. “Whether you’re following a passion or working towards a bigger goal, a $1,000 scholarship could help make it possible.”
The four recipients will be announced by mayor Philip Penfold at a free International Men’s Day event at Maitland Town Hall on Thursday, November 19.
Council is partnering with employment and community services provider Joblink Plus to stage the event, which will include guest speakers, activities and representatives from local support services and community organisations.
Cr Halliday said the annual event was intended to recognise men’s contributions to families, workplaces and the wider community while encouraging discussion about wellbeing and other challenges facing men and boys.
The men’s scholarships form part of a council program that also includes International Women’s Day scholarships, which are due to be offered again in March 2027.
