newy.com.au – Motorists can expect changed traffic conditions at Speers Point roundabout from Monday, 31 August 2026, as a 12-month construction program gets under way.
Initial work will focus on T C Frith Avenue between the roundabout and First Street. Crews will survey the area, locate underground utilities and bring equipment and materials to the site.
A construction compound will also be established at 67 Seventh Street, on the corner of T C Frith Avenue, to store machinery and provide portable amenities for workers.
Day shifts will run from 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, with work also possible between 8am and 6pm on Saturdays when required.
Lake Macquarie MP Greg Piper said motorists should prepare for traffic controllers, shoulder closures, intermittent stoppages and a reduced speed limit of 40km/h at times.
Informal parking on the northbound verge of T C Frith Avenue between Seventh and Fourth streets will be unavailable during the work. Machinery and construction vehicles will also generate additional noise around the site.
Night work will begin after the compound has been established and the site mobilised. Those shifts will operate between 6pm and 6am from Sunday to Friday, with nearby residents and motorists to be notified beforehand.
The night shifts are intended to reduce the effect of construction on traffic during peak periods.
Drivers have been asked to observe temporary speed limits and follow the directions of traffic controllers and roadwork signs throughout the project.
