newy.com.au – Police are appealing for help to identify five masked youths after a cyclist was allegedly knocked from his bike, surrounded and threatened on the Fernleigh Track.

The 52-year-old man told police he was riding south about 200 metres past Burwood Road at 7.50am on Saturday, August 29, when the group blocked his path and knocked him off the bicycle.

Police said the youths surrounded and threatened the rider before he managed to get back on his bike and leave. His mobile phone was lost during the incident and was later found smashed nearby.

Officers from Lake Macquarie Police District searched the area after the cyclist raised the alarm, but the group had left.

Investigators want to speak with five youths they believe may be able to assist with their inquiries. Two were described as being aged between 16 and 17, while the other three were believed to be aged between 13 and 15.

All were wearing black jumpers or hoodies and black beanies, with their faces covered. The group had a black electric scooter and a black fat-tyre electric bicycle.
