newy.com.au – A 44-year-old man accused of holding a woman against her will and assaulting her over several hours at a Gillieston Heights home has been refused bail.
Emergency services were called to Beckett Street about 6.10am on Wednesday, August 26, where they found the man with a stab wound. He was taken to hospital for treatment.
A 41-year-old woman was later found at a Woodberry home and taken to hospital for assessment of facial and abdominal injuries.
Police allege the man detained and assaulted the woman before inflicting the stab wound on himself.
Officers from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District began an investigation and later attended John Hunter Hospital, where they spoke with the man.
He was charged with seven offences, including three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in a domestic violence context.
The remaining charges relate to allegedly contravening an apprehended violence order, being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, stalking or intimidation, and detaining a person with intent to obtain an advantage and cause actual bodily harm.
The man was refused bail and appeared in Bail Division Court 2 on Thursday, August 27, where bail was formally refused.
He is due to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday, October 21.
