newy.com.au – A 21-year-old man has been charged with 33 offences after police investigated aggravated break-ins and the alleged theft of unregistered motorbikes worth a combined $250,000 near Newcastle.
Police arrested the man at Raymond Terrace Police Station about 9.30am on Wednesday. He was refused bail and was due to appear before Bail Division Court 2 on Thursday.
The charges include 13 counts of aggravated break and enter in company, one count of aggravated break and enter with intent while knowing a person was present, and one count of receiving property allegedly stolen in a serious indictable offence and valued at more than $5000.
The man was also charged with six counts of disguising his face with intent to commit an indictable offence and two counts of taking and driving a vehicle without the owner’s consent.
The remaining charges include two counts of driving while suspended, four counts of driving while disqualified and four counts of driving recklessly, furiously or at a dangerous speed or manner.
Police said the charges followed inquiries into several aggravated break-ins during the past 12 months.
The investigation is part of Operation Horizon, which police established in June following a large gathering at a park on Ingall Street, Mayfield.
Officers searched a Fullerton Cove home on July 14 and seized five motorbikes, clothing, helmets and electronic devices.
A 21-year-old man was arrested during that search and charged with seven offences. Those matters remain before the courts.
