newy.com.au – Photographers from the Central Coast to Coffs Harbour are being invited to show what home means to them in a new Newcastle Airport competition offering six $500 travel vouchers.
The Show the World Our Home competition opened on World Photography Day and is seeking images of the people, places and experiences that define the Hunter and surrounding regions.
Photographers of all ages can enter pictures taken across Newcastle Airport’s broader catchment, which stretches through the Central Coast, Hunter and Mid North Coast to Coffs Harbour.
Entries will be judged in five categories: Junior, Youth, Community, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, and Aviation. Each category winner will receive a $500 Newcastle Airport travel voucher, while shortlisted entries will be eligible for a People’s Choice prize of another $500 voucher.
Winning and shortlisted photographs may also be displayed in Newcastle Airport’s terminal and used across its digital and social media channels.
Newcastle Airport chief executive Linc Horton said the competition would present the region through the eyes of residents.
“Every day we welcome visitors to our region, but nobody tells the story of the Hunter better than the people who call it home,” Mr Horton said.
“Home means something different to everyone. It could be a whale breaching off our coastline, a surf at Nobbys before work, a vineyard at sunset cheering from the sidelines on a Saturday morning or going wild at a Knight’s match or even that secret place only locals know about.”
The airport says it serves a catchment of almost 1.4 million people. Mr Horton said the selected images were intended to give visitors a local view of the region while offering returning travellers a familiar sense of home.
Entries close at 11.59pm on October 18. Competition details, category requirements and entry information are available on the Newcastle Airport competition website.
