newy.com.au – Two drivers have been charged following an investigation into a three-vehicle crash that killed a 50-year-old motorcyclist near Cessnock.
Emergency services were called to the intersection of Cessnock Road and Kemp Street at Neath about 6.25pm on Friday, April 24, after a red ute, a silver ute and a motorcycle collided.
The woman riding the motorcycle suffered serious leg injuries and was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition. Police were told the following day that she had died.
The drivers of the two utes, aged 21 and 57, were not injured. Both were taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
After an investigation by the Hunter Crash Investigation Unit, police issued both men with court attendance notices on Friday, August 7.
The 21-year-old has been charged with dangerous driving occasioning death while allegedly under the influence and negligent driving occasioning death.
He also faces a separate negligent driving charge, causing bodily harm by misconduct while in charge of a vehicle, and driving with a special-range prescribed concentration of alcohol as a special-category driver.
His licence has been suspended and he is due to appear at Cessnock Local Court on Wednesday, September 23.
The 57-year-old was charged with driving with an illicit drug present in his blood. He is due to appear at Cessnock Local Court on Thursday, September 17.
