newy.com.au – Port Stephens organisations can now apply for grants of up to $6000 for projects that improve community wellbeing and celebrate Aboriginal culture.
Applications have opened for the first round of Port Stephens Council’s Community Support Fund and Aboriginal Projects Fund, which together provide $110,000 annually across two funding rounds.
The Community Support Fund distributes $70,000 each year to projects that respond to local needs, strengthen connections and improve wellbeing. Not-for-profit organisations, charities, schools and community groups operating in or servicing Port Stephens are eligible to apply.
A further $40,000 is available annually through the Aboriginal Projects Fund, which supports eligible Aboriginal-led projects in areas including the arts, creative industries, education, events and community initiatives. The fund has operated since 2002 and is guided by the council’s Aboriginal Strategic Committee.
Port Stephens Mayor Leah Anderson said the programs recognised the role local organisations and Aboriginal communities played in building a connected and inclusive region.
“Strong communities are built by local people who are passionate about making a difference, and these funding programs help turn great ideas into meaningful action,” Mayor Anderson said.
“From supporting community wellbeing and creating connections, to celebrating the rich culture, stories and traditions of the Worimi people, these projects strengthen our community and leave a lasting legacy.”
Applications for the first round close on Tuesday, 1 September 2026. A second round will open from 1 February to 1 March 2027.
