newy.com.au – Motorists are being warned of delays of up to 20 minutes during overnight work on the M1 Pacific Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace this week.
Traffic will be stopped for extended periods while signage is installed over the eastbound lanes of the ramp from John Renshaw Drive to the New England Highway between 10pm on Friday, 7 August and 6am the following morning.
Transport for NSW has urged motorists to allow extra travel time and use alternative routes where possible.
Southbound M1 traffic will also be diverted onto the northbound carriageway in a contraflow arrangement at the John Renshaw Drive and Weakleys Drive intersection. The diversion will operate from 7pm to 5am on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday nights while crews carry out asphalt work.
There will be no access to Lenaghans Drive from the southbound lanes of the M1 during those periods.
Other overnight work from Monday to Friday will require lane closures, contraflow arrangements, intermittent stoppages and temporary 40km/h speed limits on the M1 at Beresfield and Black Hill, John Renshaw Drive at Beresfield, the New England Highway at Tarro, and the Pacific Highway at Tomago and Heatherbrae.
Similar traffic controls will operate from 7am to 5pm on weekdays at Lenaghans Drive, Black Hill; Old Punt Road near the Pacific Highway at Tomago; and on the eastbound New England Highway at Tarro.
Major construction will continue across the project from 7am to 6pm on weekdays and from 8am to 5pm on Saturday, with additional overnight work from 7pm to 5am on weeknights. Motorists should follow the directions of traffic controllers and temporary signs.
Operators of oversize or over-mass vehicles with ground contact wider than 3.2 metres, or an overall width greater than 4.5 metres, must contact the project team on 1800 094 895 at least one day before travelling. Transport for NSW warned that failing to make contact could result in significant delays.
Vehicles operating under a permit must remain on the approved route unless an updated permit is obtained from the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator.
