newy.com.au – A 13-year-old boy has died after a stolen Toyota Kluger left a road and crashed into a paddock at Gateshead early on Monday.

Emergency services were called to the paddock on Willow Road about 3am and found the vehicle off the roadway. The boy was treated by first responders but could not be revived and died at the scene.

A 14-year-old boy who was an occupant of the Kluger was arrested at the scene and taken to hospital under police guard with leg injuries.

Police believe two other people were in the vehicle at the time of the crash but left before officers arrived. Following inquiries, another 14-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man were arrested and taken to John Hunter Hospital under police guard.

Initial inquiries indicate the Kluger was stolen from the Swansea area between 10pm on Sunday and 3am on Monday.

Lake Macquarie police established a crime scene, and officers from the Crash Investigation Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
