newy.com.au – A 36-year-old man has been charged after an alleged police pursuit involving a car reported stolen in Lake Macquarie.
Police were called to Huntly Close at Edgeworth about 5.45pm on Thursday after reports the vehicle had been seen on the road. Officers from Lake Macquarie Police District attended and saw the car, which allegedly drove from the scene when police arrived.
A pursuit began after the driver allegedly failed to stop. Police deployed road spikes before the vehicle came to a stop on Hyndes Street at West Wallsend.
The driver and a passenger were arrested and taken to Toronto Police Station. The passenger was later released pending further inquiries.
The driver was charged with four offences, including two counts of failing to stop and driving dangerously during a police pursuit, driving a vehicle taken without the owner’s consent, and hindering or resisting a police officer in the execution of duty.
He was refused bail and was due to appear before Bail Division Court 2 on Friday.
