newy.com.au – A 58-year-old motorcycle rider has died after his bike collided with a car at Pelaw Main in the Hunter Valley.

Emergency services were called to Leggetts Drive, about two kilometres south of Kurri Kurri, about 2.45pm on Saturday 11 July 2026 following reports of a crash.

Officers from Hunter Valley Police District arrived to find a motorcycle and a car had collided. The rider was treated at the scene by first responders and NSW Ambulance paramedics, but could not be revived.

The 72-year-old woman driving the Mitsubishi Mirage was taken to John Hunter Hospital for mandatory testing.

Police have begun an investigation into the circumstances of the crash and will prepare a report for the information of the Coroner.

Leggetts Drive is still closed in both directions at Pelaw Main while emergency services remain at the scene.

Motorists have been urged to avoid the area and allow extra travel time. The M1 Pacific Motorway and the Hunter Expressway are available as alternative routes, with the latest traffic information available through Live Traffic NSW.

Northbound – Whitebridge Rd, Richmond Vale Rd, George Booth Dr, John Renshaw Dr, Mulbring St, Tarro St and Railway St.

Southbound – Railway St, Tarro St, Mulbring St, John Renshaw Dr, George Booth Dr, Richmond Vale Rd and Whitebridge Rd.

Heavy vehicles:

Use M1 Pacific Mwy and Hunter Exp.
