newy.com.au – Reclaim the Night will return to the Warners Bay foreshore on Friday 30 October, featuring a community walk against gendered violence and in support of victim-survivors.

The Lake Macquarie Domestic Violence Committee will deliver the annual event, supported by Lake Macquarie City Council, bringing together residents, community organisations and local leaders.

Running from 5.30pm to 7.30pm, the event will include a free barbecue and live entertainment, including Aboriginal dance performances and drumming demonstrations. Games and family activities are also planned.

“Reclaim the Night is about raising awareness, showing support for victim-survivors and sending a clear message that violence has no place in our community,” Lake Macquarie Mayor Adam Shultz said.

The local gathering is part of the international Reclaim the Night movement, which advocates for women’s safety and freedom from violence in public and private spaces.

It also comes ahead of the annual 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign, which begins in November.
