newy.com.au – A $2.2 million project to replace the amenities building at Douglass Street Oval in Dora Creek is complete, providing new facilities for Southlakes Roosters Junior Rugby League Football Club.
Lake Macquarie council funded the project after the previous amenities block was damaged beyond repair in a traffic accident in 2025. Local contractor Mat Brown Building led construction, which began in March 2026.
The new building includes female friendly changerooms, a canteen, accessible toilets, storage space and a referees’ room. The project also included a new playground area, car park, pathways and landscaping.
Club president Kellie Masters said the facilities would help accommodate the Roosters’ growing membership.
“With more than 400 players, coaches and volunteers involved in the Southlakes Roosters, these modern facilities provide the space and infrastructure we need to support our expanding membership and deliver a better experience for everyone on and off the field,” she said.
Masters said the building would also benefit the club’s female participation programs and players of all ages and abilities.
Lake Macquarie Mayor Adam Shultz said the project was part of the council’s investment in sporting facilities to meet increasing demand across the city. He said supporting junior clubs was important to ensuring children and families could participate in community sport.
