newy.com.au – Work has begun on the new Gateshead Ambulance Station on Oakdale Road. Construction is expected to be completed in late 2027.
Site establishment works are under way on the Gateshead project and construction activity will increase over the coming months. Builder Lipman has been appointed following planning approval and a competitive tender process.
The station will have 14 ambulance vehicle parking bays, including a dedicated wash bay. Plans also include offices, staff amenities and a gym, logistics and storage facilities, and on site parking.
NSW Ambulance selected the location after assessing demand and ambulance response needs across the region, the government said.
Charlestown MP Jodie Harrison said: “This new ambulance station is something our growing community has long called for and will ensure more people can access high-quality emergency care when it’s needed most.”
Hunter Minister Yasmin Catley said: “Our paramedics do extraordinary work in some of the toughest moments of people’s lives. They deserve facilities that support them properly and so does the community.”
The new Gateshead station is part of the NSW Government’s $615.5 million NSW Ambulance Infrastructure Program. That funding covers the broader program, rather than the Gateshead station alone.
The government said the facility would complement ambulance stations at Caves Beach, North Rothbury, East Maitland and Edgeworth.
