newy.com.au – Westbound traffic on the New England Highway will be detoured via John Renshaw Drive and Weakleys Drive on Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 October 2026 for overnight asphalt work.
Transport for NSW said construction was continuing on new interchanges and local roads in the project’s Black Hill to Tomago section following the opening of the M1 Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace.
Drivers face lane closures, intermittent stoppages and temporary speed reductions to 40km/h at several locations during the week. Contraflow arrangements will also direct some traffic onto the opposite side of the road.
Night work is scheduled on the M1 Pacific Motorway at Beresfield and Black Hill, John Renshaw Drive at Beresfield, the New England Highway at Tarro and the Pacific Highway at Tomago and Heatherbrae.
Those works will run from 8pm on Monday 5 October until 5am the following morning, then from 7pm to 5am each night from Tuesday 6 to Friday 9 October.
Daytime work is scheduled from 7am to 5pm, Monday 5 to Friday 9 October, on Lenaghans Drive at Black Hill, Old Punt Road near the Pacific Highway at Tomago and the eastbound New England Highway at Tarro.
Motorists should allow extra travel time and follow signs and directions from traffic controllers.
Operators of oversize or over mass vehicles are advised to contact the project team on 1800 094 895 at least one day before travelling if their vehicle has a ground contact width greater than 3.2 metres or an overall width greater than 4.5 metres. Transport for NSW warned that failing to make contact could result in significant delays.
Vehicles travelling under a permit must remain on the approved route unless an updated permit has been obtained from the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator.
Further information about the work is available through the Live Traffic NSW project alert or the Live Traffic NSW app. Transport for NSW also provides information on cumulative traffic impacts across Newcastle and surrounding areas.
