newy.com.au – A 26 year old man wanted on three outstanding warrants faces a firearm and ammunition charge after his arrest during a police operation at a Hamilton South unit block.
Newcastle City police, assisted by the Tactical Operations Unit, arrested the man at the Fowler Street property about 7.30pm on Thursday, 1 October 2026.
Residents reported marked and unmarked police cars in the street, highway patrol vehicles blocking access at both ends and guns being pointed towards a building. They also described what appeared to be police negotiators speaking to someone inside.
Police allege officers found a firearm and seized ammunition during a search of the unit.
The man was taken to Newcastle Police Station, where the three warrants relating to alleged domestic violence, traffic and property offences were executed. He was also charged with possessing a firearm and ammunition without a licence, permit or authority.
Police refused bail ahead of a scheduled appearance before Bail Division Court 2 on Friday, 2 October 2026.
