newy.com.au – Knights fans can watch Newcastle take on the Roosters in the NRL grand final at a free big screen event at Maitland Regional Sportsground on Sunday, 4 October 2026.
Maitland City Council will show the 2026 premiership decider on a 10-metre screen, gates opening at 3.30pm ahead of the 7.30pm kick-off. Family friendly activities are planned before the match, along with a replay of the Knights’ 1997 grand final win over the Sea Eagles.
“There’s a real buzz around Maitland ahead of the grand final, and we’re looking forward to seeing the community come together to support the Knights and fill the Sportsground as they battle it out against the Roosters,” Maitland mayor Philip Penfold said.
Penfold also highlighted the Maitland connections of Thomas Cant, Lachlan Crouch, Cody Hopwood, Fletcher Sharpe and Pasami Saulo, who he said were all members of the Knights’ 2026 squad.
“It’s especially exciting to see local talent with strong Maitland connections on rugby league’s biggest stage, with Thomas Cant, Lachlan Crouch, Cody Hopwood, Fletcher Sharpe and Pasami Saulo all part of the Knights’ 2026 squad.”
The event is at the sportsground on James Street, Maitland. Fans are encouraged to bring a fold-out chair or picnic rug, and food will be available to buy. Alcohol for responsible personal consumption is permitted, but glass bottles are prohibited.
